Domaine de Montille - 'Les Mitans 1er Crus' Volnay - 2018

is the stronghold of the family estate. Nestled halfway up the hillside, on a soil dominated by clay-marl-limestone vineyards, this village has 207 ha including 29 premier crus. The plot of “Mitans” of the Domain, which comes from the word “middle”, is remarkably located at mid-slope and exposed to the east. It is composed of a varied set of different soils and subsoils. Partly made of limestone scree at the top, the bedrock rises in the middle of the plot to give way to deeper clays at the bottom. This complexity is found in the wine. The nose of "Mitans" is often very floral, with nuances of violet and spices, oriental and complex with notes of small black fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants, cherries). On the palate, the structure is dense and tight but the tannins are still coated, which gives the wine a lot of smoothness and a voluptuous texture. The finish is spicy, slender, elegant. This is probably the most sensual and carnal Volnay of the Domaine.
